Réseau-Observatoire

Research, publication, and long-term stewardship of textual resources.

The Réseau-Observatoire pour les Matériaux narratifs orthodoxes, vaticinaux et historiques is a scientific association under French law, based in Paris. Its programs concern ancient and modern linguistics, religious studies, archaeology, textual criticism, digital corpora, terminology, and reference editions.

The Network connects subject-specific projects with methods for describing and publishing texts. Responsibility for content remains with the author, editor, or thematic program; specifications and normalized versions have their own maintainers.

Selected Stages of the Program

The first general and lexicographic Romanova materials date from the mid-2000s. During the same period, working conventions emerged around lexical choice, text structure, and editorial representation.

In later years, discussion of certain conventions was connected with research seminars and with the development of international practices in digital text and linguistic annotation. By the early 2010s, the main focus had shifted toward applying those choices in dictionaries, corpora, and publication projects.

The current program brings together a catalogue of references, local profiles, thematic resources, and a registry of applications. Historical documents are preserved with their original attribution and are not retroactively given the status of active specifications.
